Alicia Schult Speaks at the 2024 Spring Luncheon

Wisconsin JASNA region members came together at the Spring Luncheon on April 20, 2024. Highlights included a social hour before the meal, where old friends connected and new friends were made, a board presentation, and an entertaining presentation by Alicia Schult.
Â
The board reported on the goals of the Wisconsin JASNA region for 2024, many of which have been met or are close to being met. A call for volunteers went out, in particular a request for graphic art/design expertise. Anyone interested in sharing their skills was asked to contact the regional coordinator.
The region is in exceptionally fine financial shape, as Janet Johnson, regional treasurer, reported.

A delicious lunch was followed by Alicia’s talk on the inner and outer cosmos of beauty. Alicia regaled the audience with her tales of searching for original cosmetic recipes that did not contain toxic ingredients. The presentation explored marketing of beauty products, the origins of Virgin’s Milk and common beauty products of the age (some of which Alicia makes and sells, including one mentioned in Jane Austen’s writings), and some of the mysteries (at least to us) of Regency Era beauty. Alicia even revealed the reason she became an expert in ancient makeup–a dream! She showcased the products from her business, LBCC Historical Apothecary, offered for sale during the event.

More modern beauty products were available in a gift basket included in the raffle, along with a relaxing reticule basket, a tea basket, and a published copy of Martha Loyd’s cookbook.
